The translator makes a Chinese-English translation of Qiji Huayuan by Sulan Tang,a Chinese fairy tale writer, and writes this practical report on the basis of completing the translation of the first three chapters. As one of the works,Qiji Huayuan won the 8th National Excellent Children’s Literature Award in China, and was loved by many young readers. This novel mainly tells the story of a fairy tale writer in the wild field of the Garden of Miracles, which is created in combination with real life and imagination. Each story enlightens readers with a lot of truth.Young readers will be inspired to establish the right values and be righteous and selfless persons with the spirit of devotion in the wake of reading this work. This is the value and significance of translating this work.Qiji Huayuan is divided into 18 stories. The translator mainly translates the first three stories, with 11,959 words in the original text and 8,049 words in the translated text. This report consists of five parts: task description, process description, theoretical basis, case analysis and conclusion. In the process of the translation, the translator guides translation practice with Skopostheorie.Skopostheorie emphasizes that the translator should choose translation strategies according to the purpose of the translation. The translation of children’s literature has its particularity and language characteristics, which requires not only keeping the vivid and childlike characteristics and style of the original text, but also taking into account the particularity of the target language. It should be dealt with from the aspects of pronunciation, vocabulary, syntax, and culture, for which, the combination of translation purpose and strategy is also reflected in the translation process.By analyzing the text genre in the pre-translation stage, determining the translation strategy in the while-translating stage, and revising and polishing in the post-translation stage, this report focuses on the analysis of difficulties encountered in the translation practice and its solutions.By and large,it is concluded that the selection of translation strategies should also take into account the English-Chinese terminologies, the transformation of characters’ communicative intentions and subjective emotions,as well as the differences between cultures of Chinese and English languages, especially placing a premium on the differences between Chinese and English children’s literature, children’s psychology and children’s language habits,in order to achieve the purpose of children’s literature translation.
