On Fidelity In Long Sentence Translation In Academic Texts

Translation is essentially a kind of communicative activity,and thus the translation must be as faithful as possible to the source text.Only in this way can the target readers fully understand the source text,and the purpose of communication can be achieved.Fidelity is the core issue in translation activities.Based on the translation of academic articles on health management,this report dissects the fidelity in the translation of long sentences in academic texts through case analysis.This report consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the translation task,and sums up the characteristics of the source text.The second part summarizes the features of long sentences,and based on the previous scholars’ exploration of the translation principles of academic texts and the author’s analysis of the source text,the author puts forward three translation principles.The third chapter of the report is the key chapter,in which the author discusses the fidelity from two aspects of form and meaning with specific examples.In formal fidelity,the author explores the compliance with the original sequence and the consistence of the expression style.In terms of fidelity in meaning,the author analyses the adjustment of the original sequence,the clarification of the original sentence logic and the integrality of the original information.In the fourth part,the author expounds the findings and limitations.This report can provide some reference for the translation of long sentences in academic texts in the future.
