A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Complex Sentences In Maritime Accident Reports

Maritime traffic safety is a common topic of concern all over the world,and the maritime accident investigation reports of all countries provide experience and reference for their own countries and other countries.This translation practice report selects the collision accident between the Genesis River and the Voyager in 2019.The translator encounters a large number of complex sentences in the process of translating the text.The frequency of these sentences are high in the text.In English translation,the translation of complex sentences has been the difficulty and focus.Its rich content and complex structure are difficult in understanding and expression,which constitutes the difficulty of translation.When translating the complex sentences in the accident investigation report,the translator adopts appropriate translation methods to adjust the structure of the translation according to Newmark’s “communicative translation” theory.The translation methods like sequential translation,reverse translation,restructuring,splitting,embedding and inserting are used in the translation process to transmit the original information.
