Translation of books in the field of artificial intelligence can help people better understand the development history and future trends of artificial intelligence. The source text of this translation practice comes from Artifictional Intelligence: Against Humanity’s Surrender to Computers by Harry Collins, which contains some of the most novel ideas in artificial intelligence. The biggest problem encountered in the translation process is understanding. The translator has adopted schema theory as the guiding principle and analyzed the problem of understanding from two levels: the level of language schema and the level of non-linguistic schema. At the level of linguistic schema, the report mainly analyzes the default of phrase schema and that of lexical schema; At the level of non-linguistic schema, the report mainly analyzes the default of domain knowledge schema, that of background knowledge schema and that of context content schema.Default of these schemas leads to translation that does not conform to the intention and logic of the source text and results in poor readability in target language. To solve the problem of understanding, the translator expands knowledge schema to enhance cognition, and combines the knowledge schema with the intention of source language to enhance the readability of the translation. The practice shows that schema theory is useful in guiding the translation of related texts in the field of artificial intelligence. The translator also benefits from understanding the relationship between schema and translation and has acquired professional knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence.
