Research On Xia Zengyou’s Concept And Practice Of Journalism

Xia Zengyou was a famous historian,writer,thinker and political commentator in modern China.Liang Qichao called him "the revolutionary pioneer in the ideological circles of the late Qing Dynasty".The academic research on Xia Zengyou mostly starts with history and literature,but there is little research on the content of his newspapers and periodicals.Xia Zengyou published a large number of popular political articles to publicize the reform and reform,which had a certain impact on the current situation at that time and was recognized by his peers and society.He played an important role in the newspaper industry at that time.This paper aims to analyze Xia Zengyou’s newspaper practice and concept from the perspective of journalists,Clarify the development context of Xia Zengyou’s newspaper practice and the influencing factors of his newspaper concept,interpret the main contents of Xia Zengyou’s newspaper concept,summarize the characteristics of his newspaper concept,and evaluate the influence and location of his newspaper concept.The first chapter is divided into three parts.Firstly,it combs Xia Zengyou’s life experience,which is divided into studying hard in his youth to participate in the scientific examination,supporting the reform reform and its public opinion in his middle age,reflecting on the reform and Reform in his later years and fading out of the press and politics.Secondly,it expounds the track of his newspaper activities in the period of Guo Wen Daily and Universal Gazette,as well as the relationship between his newspaper activities and the reform public opinion.Furthermore,it discusses the origin of the formation of Xia Zengyou’s concept of newspaper study from three aspects: the traditional education,the era environment and the influence of journalists in the same industry.The second chapter studies the concept of journalism put forward by Xia Zengyou in the political context of saving the nation from subjugation at that time,which is divided into three aspects: the concept of newspaper function,the concept of newspaper freedom and the concept of newspaper talents.The third chapter summarizes the ideological characteristics of Xia Zengyou ’s famous newspapers and periodicals.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the historical significance of Xia Zengyou’s concept of Journalism and its practical enlightenment to modern journalism.I hope to have a more systematic understanding of Xia Zengyou’s life’s newspaper activities and newspaper learning ideas through the gradual discussion of these four chapters.I think Xia Zengyou is a newspaperman who coexists political ideals and improving weakness.In the political context of saving the nation from subjugation and striving for survival,Xia Zengyou’s keen political consciousness made the newspaper issue the voice of the times and become a newspaper man who publicized the reform and reform and aimed to achieve the goal of enriching the country and strengthening the people;But in the drastic changes of the times,he moved towards the road of "retro retrogression".His character of thinking more and doing less made him a journalist who could not realize his political ideal and was gradually forgotten by the world.Xia Zengyou’s concept of journalism not only shows the efforts of advanced intellectuals in the late Qing Dynasty to move towards the stage of reform and reform by means of "literati demonstration",but also exposes the historical limitations of their inability to get rid of the old ideas and old systems.
