| This paper is a translation practice report of English to Chinese translation.The source text is taken from the first two chapters of Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know by Adam Grant.The source text belongs to social psychological reading.The first chapter focuses on four professional thoughts that people fall into when they think.The second chapter mainly describes the thinking habits of two types of people.Because this is a popular science reading,its author uses many charts,various cases and psychological experiments to help readers better understand the content.According to these characteristics,the difficulties in this translation practice mainly focus on proper noun translation,background information investigation and the preservation of humorous language style.This report employs Li Changshuan’s CEA theoretical framework(the theoretical analysis framework of Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation)to discuss how to solve the problems of comprehension,expression and adaptation in translation.The report holds that,in terms of comprehension,special terms in psychological texts are a big problem.While some terms can be found in dictionaries or with authoritative explanations in network resources,others need to be translated reader-centered so that they are easy to understand.Concerning sentence comprehension,the report mainly focuses on the grasp of the overall sentence structure and checks the translation according to the specific contexts in the source text.In terms of expression,the report mainly emphasizes logical fluency,concise language and fluent expression.In terms of adaptation,the report makes the translation more suitable to Chinese idiomatic expression by means of ellipsis,supplement and adaptation.It is hoped that this translation practice can provide some reference for other translators to translate similar popular science books in social psychology,and for the introduction and promotion of English popular science readings to China in the future. |
