| In English teaching,reading is a very important part.The English Curriculum Criteria for Regular High School(2017)proposes that teaching English curriculum in high school should be student-centered,not only to improve students’ language ability and cultural consciousness,but also to improve students’ thinking quality and learning ability.At present,most high school English reading teaching is not timely changed because of the pressure of the college entrance examination.And some teachers didn’t change their teaching philosophy and teaching mode.English teaching is still taught by teachers and listened by students,which cannot effectively stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm and make them show strong autonomy before,during and after class learning,thus affecting the improvement of their core competences.The “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” teaching mode is a new teaching mode,proposed by a high school in 2019 in Qinzhou,Guangxi,where the author works.It is based on guided study plans and group cooperation.Under the guidance of guided study plans,students can integrate the knowledge they have learned into their own knowledge system through the cooperation.The teacher helps and guides the students to carry out cooperative and inquiry-based learning through the guided study plan,to identify potential problems in learning,and to collaborate in solving textrelated problems raised by group members during the reading process.This paper aims to study the influence of the “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” model on senior high school students’ interest in English learning,their English reading comprehension test scores and their core competences in English,i.e.,language ability,cultural consciousness,thinking quality and learning ability.This study focused on answering three research questions: 1)What is the impact of the“Two guides,Three links and One promotion” on senior high school students’ interest in learning English? 2)What is the impact of the “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” on students’ English reading test scores? 3)What is the impact of the“Two guides,Three links and One promotion” on developing students’ English core competences?This study used questionnaires,interviews,and pre-and post-tests to conduct a one-semester experimental study with 105 students in two sophomore of a middle school in Qinzhou,Guangxi.The teaching mode of “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” was used in the reading teaching of the experimental class,while the PWP teaching mode was applied to the control class.Later,a test was conducted in the two classes,and the data were analyzed by SPSS.The teaching effect of “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” was studied.Based on this,students in the experimental classes were selected for interviews and questionnaires to understand their attitudes and learning.Through the compilation and analysis of the data,the following conclusions could be drawn: First,the teaching mode of “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” is conducive to stimulating the learning of English.Secondly,the teaching mode of “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” is conducive to the development of English core competences.Thirdly,the teaching mode of “Two guides,Three links and One promotion” is conducive to the improvement of English reading comprehension scores.When applying the new teaching model,different students have great adaptability to this new learning style.Teachers should pay more attention to students’ adaptations at different times,provide more guidance to students,encourage them to carry out various learning activities,and offer corresponding learning advice. |
