| The Dish-serving dance has a long history,originated in a matrilineal society,and is a traditional food culture that perfectly combines dance,music,acrobatics,and food.Known as “Wuduoha” in the Yi language,Dish-serving dance is the source of the ethnic culture of Nanjian County.In 2008,the Dish-serving dance was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list approved by the State Council.As part of Chinese ethnic culture,the Dish-serving dance has a high cultural value,facilitating the spread of Yi culture nationwide and worldwide.The Dish-Serving Dance--Rural Banquet Etiquette of the Yi Ethnic Group in Nanjian is a monograph on the banquet etiquette of Nanjian written by Professor Qin Ying at Yunnan Agricultural University.This book has high research value for the ethnographic and anthropological study of the Yi group.Translating this book is conducive to spreading the unique ethnic culture of the Yi in Nanjian.Moreover,making more people aware of the rich ethnic culture of Yunnan,arousing more people’s interest in minority cultures,and more critically,promoting the exchange of ethnic cultures.In this translation practice,the author chose the first section of Chapter three from Dish-Serving Dance--Rural Banquet Etiquette of Yi Ethnic Group in Nanjian as the translation material,which mainly introduces the symbolic meaning of the dishes and table manners in the banquet culture of Nanjian.This translation practice is a Chinese-to-English text that elaborates the translation practice process and translation content.It analyzes the key points and difficulties in translation practice in various aspects.This report is mainly composed of four parts.First,it introduces the translation task,including the background,organization of the report,and the significance of translation materials.Secondly,it presents the specific translation process,includin pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translation content.Thirdly,the third part mainly analyzes the text in depth through concrete examples.Finally,summarize the gains and reflections of this translation practice.It was based on the original text and combined the characteristics of the original work.The author chooses Professor Huang Zhonglian’s theory of Translation Variation as primary guidance and combines his seven adaptations to focus on the problems and difficulties that emerged in the translating process,such as cultural-loaded words,parallel structures,and long sentences.In the later part of the report,the author also reflected on the shortcomings in translation practice. |
