| This thesis,based on the requirements of skills and strategies of the “theme” put forward by the Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Ed.)(hereinafter CSCE)and the problems of students’ incompetence in oral English(so-called “dumb English”)in the current oral English teaching in junior middle schools of China,applies the Stratification theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL),in quest of ways to improve oral English teaching in junior high school.CSCE defines “theme” as one of the six elements of language skills and learning strategies.The “theme” provides context for classroom teaching and enables students to understand the specific context of language learning.SFL emphasizes the important role of context,and advocates language learners to mobilize the potential of language semantics,lexicogrammar and phonology in language context to achieve the best learning effect,which provides a practical solution to the problem of “dumb English”,and is consistent with CSCE.The thesis first discusses the application of Stratification theory in oral English teaching in junior middle school,constructs a stratificational model for oral English teaching in junior middle school,and then applies this model to specific teaching by taking two classes in Grade one of some Middle School in Wanzhou as experimental objects to test its effectiveness in practice.The research methods are mainly qualitative research,supplemented by quantitative research.The methods of Literature,Comparative Analysis,Survey,Experiment and SPSS analysis were used in the specific research.The findings of this study are as follows: 1)The Stratification theory of systemic functional linguistics is applicable in junior middle school oral English teaching,which can be used to construct a stratificational model of oral English teaching,and is feasible in teaching practice;2)Through experiments,the hierarchical model of oral English teaching in junior middle school has strong effectiveness,which can effectively improve students’ oral English level and teachers’ classroom efficiency.This study provides a practical solution to the problem of “dumb English” in oral English teaching in junior middle school,and helps to improve the efficiency and effect of oral English teaching.The creative ideas put forward in the study can provide reference for similar research,and also can feed back the stratificational theory of SFL. |
