| The source text of this translation practice is selected from the story of one of the endings in the video game The Innsmouth Case.In this part, the protagonist is a detective who tries to investigate the disappearance case of a little girl and arrives at the small town Innsmouth, finally uncovering the hidden horrible secrets. As a video game text, the text of The Innsmouth Case contains the easy and witty atmosphere in the early stage and the scary and suspenseful feature in the late stage. To reflect the different features in the early and late stages of the source text is one of the important concerns. Moreover, this game contains a lot of culture-loaded words, which also increases the difficulty for translation. In order to solve these problems, under the guidance of Eco-translatology theory, the translator takes the three-dimensional transformations method, making the adaptive selection and transformation to the source text from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions. On the linguistic dimension, voice change, word order adjustment and changing parts of speech are three techniques which can solve the language differences. On the cultural dimension, the translator uses several Chinese four-character words and idioms to translate the English sentences or phrases and substitutes and interprets a few English culture-loaded words to figure out the cultural differences between English and Chinese. On the communicative dimension, amplification, semantic extension and reproduction of the character’s tone are adopted to achieve the transfer of communicative intentions. This translation practice proves that Eco-translatology can be adopted to guide video game translation and indicates concrete translation techniques and methods in different dimensions, providing some references for translation practices of the same text type and related studies in the future. |
