A Study Of The Gengzi Incident Poems In The Northeast Local Chronicles

During the Gengzi Incident,poets in the Northeast region wrote poems to record the people and events of that time.The literary research on the Boxer Rebellion in academia mostly focuses on the Beijing Tianjin region,but little attention is paid to the poetry of the Boxer Rebellion in the Northeast region.In fact,Northeast poets have a dual identity,not only as bystanders of the Beijing Tianjin upheaval,but also as firsthand witnesses of the Northeast War,making them an indispensable part of the literature of the Gengzi Incident.The research on the poets in Northeast China during the Guangxuan period in the academic community is relatively rough,and most of them have not received sufficient attention.Basic information such as family background and life history is lacking in organization,and there is not much research on the literary works of the poet group,which is biased towards the field of history.By examining the family background and life history of the Northeast poet group,we can understand the social and personal background of the poet group’s creation.The retention of literary works by the poet group is also not good,and many of them have not been collected.Poems,including Gengzi’s poems,are mostly scattered in local chronicles and historical materials,and have not yet been collected and organized.Taking the Northeast Chronicles as a starting point,it is possible to effectively collect many scattered poems of the Boxer Rebellion,and also to systematically observe the overall situation of poetry creation by the Northeast poet group during the Boxer Rebellion period.The appendix at the end of the article contains a list of poet group literary works,which records the collection information and the sources of scattered articles,which is conducive to in-depth research on individual poets and works.The close communication between the groups of poets in Northeast China is a special literary phenomenon.This article focuses on the communication between the group of poets at Yingang Academy in Tieling and the communication between Jilin poet Cheng Duolu and his teachers and friends as examples to demonstrate the literary communication of the group of poets in Northeast China during the Gengzi Incident.The different feelings of Northeast poet groups from different social classes towards the Gengzi Incident are reflected in the poetry of the Gengzi Incident theme,mainly manifested in the concentrated attention to historical events: there is a high level of attention to important news such as the Western Expedition and the peace talks,there are records of the Boxer Rebellion that occurred within the territory of Northeast China,there are praises of the anti defense deeds of Northeast officials,and there are records of the historical records of local group training organizations.To enhance the historical characteristics of poetry,Northeast poets consciously use sub texts such as poem titles,preface,and self annotations to expand their narrative space,and also use detailed narrative techniques to showcase the authenticity of war as much as possible.Through the organization and analysis of the poetry of the Gengzi Incident recorded in the local chronicles of Northeast China,we can glimpse the impact of the Gengzi Incident on the mood and poetry creation of poets in Northeast China,and thus understand the development of modern poetry in Northeast China.
