Encyclopedia of Educational Psychology, edited under the leadership of Dr.Neil Salkind,is an encyclopedia of educational psychology terminology. The book uses the first letter of the English name of the professional terms as the sorting basis, lists the relevant terms in the subject field, and gives detailed explanations. In this study, six terms are selected for translation practice and analyzed within the framework of Toury’s theory of translation norms. As a representative of descriptive translation studies,Toury put forward the theory of "translation norms",arguing that translators are often constrained by three norms: preliminary norms, initial norms and operational norms. These three norms respectively affect the translator’s choice of pre-translational texts,decision-making of translation strategies and the use of actual translation techniques.Based on the three norms, this study analyzes in detail all aspects of this translation practice, including text selection, overall strategy selection, and technique selection for specific cases.Guided by the theory of preliminary norms, the translator expounds the reasons for selecting this material from the perspectives of internal factors and external factors, combining personal own experience of learning educational psychology and the social background of Quality Education and the "teacher craze" in recent years.Under the influence of initial norms, translators need to clarify whether the translation is pursuing "sufficiency" or "acceptability",and then determine the overall strategy of translation practice. As far as this practice is concerned, the translator is more inclined to the acceptability of the translation, and chooses free translation strategies to improve the acceptance of the translation among the target readers.Under the guidance of the operational norms, the translator adopts specific translation techniques, such as augmented translation, omitted translation,part-of-speech conversion,to make the translation more in line with the Chinese language norms and closer to the target language readers.Through this research, the translator hopes to summarize applicable strategies and techniques to make the translation of academic texts widely accepted, and provide reference for future translation practice.
