A Study On Belief-Doubt Psychological Verbs In Mandarin Chinese

As a lexical expression means of appraising language in modern Chinese,the psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)are a subcategory of cognitive psychological verbs,which have important functions of emotional expression and interpersonal interaction.This paper takes the modern Chinese psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)as the research object,uses lexical semantics,syntactic semantics,pragmatic appraisal and other theoretical methods,combined with cognitive psychological analysis,systematically investigates the semantic and grammatical characteristics of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)psychological verbs,discusses the rules of functional pragmatic appraisal of these words,and compares and analyzes the similarities and differences of"Xiangxin"(相信)and"Huaiyi"(怀疑)psychological verbs.This paper also analyzes the form of"V Bu V"related to psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑).The structure of this paper is divided into the following parts:The first part determines the object of this paper’s research"Xiangxin"(相信)psychological verbs.According to the definition of the 7th edition of Modern Chinese Dictionary,this paper sorts out and selects psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)in Synonym Ci Lin(2nd Edition),Modern Chinese Dictionary of Classification,Modern Chinese Dictionary of Classification and Modern Chinese Verb Classification Dictionary,and obtains the lexicon of psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑),and analyzes the semantic characteristics of these words in detail.This kind of mental verb contains the semantic feature of[+cognition][+belief],which is a subcategory of cognitive mental verbs divided from the meaning.It refers to the view or attitude of believing or not when people face the same information or thing based on their different thinking ability and cognitive level,depending on certain cognition or experience.Such as conviction,credulity,suspicion,etc.,express a subjective judgment and attitude.The second part analyzes the syntactic and semantic characteristics of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)psychological verbs from the perspective of syntactic function and semantic directivity,and examines the ability of these words to act as syntactic components,syntactic control ability and the characteristics of predicate sentences formed by co-occurrence with other words.This paper discusses the semantic directivity of the psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑),that is,it generally points to the agent or its field related to its behavior in the sentence,and basically points to itself or its field.This paper introduces the theory of propositional attitude to discuss the propositional features of the psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑).The third part illustrates that the psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)are one of the main lexical means to express appraisal.In this part,the appraisal of psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)is discussed in detail by using the appraisal theory,the cognitive framework of psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)is constructed,and the language projection of such appraisal verbs under this framework is analyzed.This part also elaborates the emotional expression and interpersonal interaction function of the psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑).The conceptual semantics of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)mental verbs not only contain obvious mental process,but also convey the subjective attitude of the speaker or the author,and contain appraisal function,which is a lexical expression means of appraising language in modern Chinese.In addition,the two subcategories of"Xangxin"(相信)and"Huaiyi"(怀疑)form the opposite emotional expression system of"Xin and Yi"(信疑).The fourth part discusses the form of"V Bu V"in the psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑)(take"Xin Bu Xin"(信不信)and"Xiangxin Bu Xiangxin"(相信不相信)as examples)from the perspective of grammaticalization,and clarifies the transformation of its syntactic function from predicate core to non-predicate core after grammaticalization,becoming a kind of discourse marker and other pragmatic meanings such as expression of question and another expression of verification.This part also points out that in the process of grammaticizing"V Bu V",the choice of"V"may be affected by people’s optimism,which leads to the asymmetry of this form in the psychological verbs of"Xin and Yi"(信疑).
