| Vocational selection anxiety has become one of the most concerning mental health problems among fresh graduates.A large number of studies have revealed the role of mental health literacy in mental well-being.Additionally,resilience and coping style are regarded as significant factors of vocational selection anxiety. However, how mental health literacy, resilience, and coping style affect mental health is not widely reported.Improving mental health literacy is one of the most fundamental, economical, and effective measures to enhance mental health. However, measures of mental health literacy are not uniform. Many mental health literacy questionnaires have problems such as unclear reliability and validity, neglecting individual compliance in treatment, and difficulty for ordinary people to understand the generation and development of mental problems and the protective role of mental health literacy. Therefore, this study selected the multidimensional mental health literacy questionnaire compiled according to the prevention, coping, and treatment of mental health problems of ordinary people,to measure the mental health literacy of Shanghai college graduates. The study was divided into two parts: The first study tested the reliability and validity of the multidimensional mental health literacy questionnaire, and data were collected from Shanghai university graduates in the form of a questionnaire survey,and997 copies were effectively recovered. The study found that the multidimensional mental health literacy questionnaire, which comprised 25 items from five dimensions including symptom recognition, access to resources, professional help-seeking,treatment compliance, and attitudes towards patients with mental illness, met the measurement criteria for both reliability and validity. In the second study, the validated multidimensional mental health literacy questionnaire was used to collect 390 copies of data through a questionnaire survey,to explore the mental health literacy and vocational selection anxiety of Shanghai college graduates, and to verify the chain mediating effect of resilience and coping style. The results showed that(1)Only 16.92% of graduates reach the standard of mental health literacy;(2)There are three potential categories of graduates’ vocational selection anxiety, which are lack of confidence(25.39%),low vocational selection anxiety(56.41%)and lack of confidence and worry about the prospect(18.20%).(3)The mediating effect of resilience, positive coping style, and negative coping style on the influence of mental health literacy on vocational selection anxiety was significant respectively. Therefore, graduates with higher mental health literacy have a higher level of resilience. When encountering difficulties in career selection, they tend to use more positive and mature coping styles, and less negative and immature coping styles, which can ease vocational selection anxiety. This study provides a new perspective for relieving the vocational selection anxiety of college graduates and enriches the research of mental health literacy. It is suggested that the government, employment guidance personnel, and professional psychology practitioner in colleges should start by improving the mental health literacy of graduates, develop the resilience of graduates, and cultivate rich and mature coping styles of graduates to help graduates better cope with vocational selection anxiety. |
