| With the rapid development of economy and modern society, countries around the world strive to deal effectively with the relationship between economic growth and its influence on environmental protection. As a result, ecological economics emerges and advances rapidly in recent decades, which calls for closer global communication and cooperation for further research. In this context, the translation task takes “A Tale of Three Paradigms: Realising the Revolutionary Potential of Ecological Economics”(Excerpt)as the original text, which elucidates the core paradigmatic conflict between mainstream economics and ecological economics over the past thirty years and specifies the ecological economic paradigm along with a new research agenda.Hence, the translated text can help Chinese readers broaden their knowledge of ecological economics and acquire information about the development in ecological economics in western countries. The report includes task description, process description, guiding theory, case analysis and summary, ranging from chapter 1 to chapter 5.Under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this report goes into details about the adopted translation strategies to deal with the typical examples that the present author encountered in the translation process at lexical, syntactic and textual levels. At the lexical level, this report mainly discusses the translation of terminologies, polysemous words and proper nouns by adopting such translation methods as literal translation, free translation and annotation, etc. At the syntactic level, the present author focuses on the translation of passive sentences and complex sentences by dint of division, reorganization, omission, etc. At the textual level, textual cohesion and coherence are stressed with the help of addition of connectives, reproduction of demonstrative pronouns and so forth.According to functional equivalence theory, the target text should be functionally equivalent to the original and thus the target readers are able to obtain similar reading experience as the source readers do.Therefore, this report is conducive to providing some reference for translators engaging in translating ecological economics texts and offering Chinese readers an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding about ecological economics. |
