A Report On E-C Translation Of The Getting Of Wisdom(Chapter 1 To 5)

In today’s increasingly close international cultural exchanges,literature has become an important link between countries and nations.With the continuous improvement of China’s openness to the outside world,more and more foreign literary works have come into the view of Chinese readers.Many literary works,especially those based on English novels,have become important media for cross-cultural communication.However,so far,there are still a lot of unexplored fields in the study of Chinese translation of English literary novels,and the research value of this field should not be underestimated.Therefore,it is very important for the translation and research of English literary works.This translation practice report is based on the first five chapters of The Getting of Wisdom written by Australian writer Henry Handel Richardson.The book describes a twelve-year-old girl Laura in the boarding school twists and turns and the story of growing up.Guided by Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation,the translator uses appropriate translation strategies and translation methods to analyze translations at the lexical,syntactic,and textual levels.Firstly,at the lexical level,for example,the translator makes use of annotation,conversion,and amplification.Syntactically,the translator uses inversion,literal translation,and the like.At the textual level,cohesive and coherent methods are used to make the translation faithful to the original text as much as possible and in line with the expression habits of the target language readers.It is hoped that this account of translation practice report can provide insights and references for translators of related literary books.
