A Report On The C-E Translation Of Ethnic Cultural Innovation Institution—Northwest China (Excerpts)

Northwest China is one of the few multi-ethnic regions in the world,where the cultures of various ethnic groups,including Han,Tibetan,Hui and Mongolian,as well as Tibetan Buddhism,Islam and Confucianism,have made significant contributions to the cultural exchange and development of China and the world.However,with the ongoing modernization and globalization,the economic foundation and the institutional and social environment on which culture depends for its survival and development have undergone profound changes,leaving more and more national cultures in a difficult position to carry on.However,the survival and development of nationalities must be based on their own economic strengths and depend more on their unique cultural advantages.Under the irreversible trend of globalization,it is of great significance to establish the guarantee institution for cultural innovation in the northwest minority areas,deepen the reform of the cultural system and promote the building and development of socialist culture in accordance with the reality of the minority areas.The report is based on the C-E translation in Chapter 1 of the Ethnic Cultural Innovation Institution-Northwest China.The original text is characterized by loose sentences,professional knowledge and logical content.Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory,the semantic translation and communicative translation methods are flexibly applied from the lexical,syntactic and discoursal levels,and transliteration,literal translation,amplification,omission and voice conversion are adopted to solve the problems arising in the translation process and improve the accuracy and fluency of the translation.There are six chapters in this report,including background introduction of the source text,translation process,difficulties and corresponding solutions.Through the translation practice,the translator not only understands the whole process of the translation project,gains a deep understanding of Newmark’s theory of text typology and the importance of combining theory and practice,but also improves the translator’s skills and lays a solid foundation for future work.
