| The National Revolution was a people’s revolution against imperialism and the feudal dictatorship of the Northern Warlords based on the cooperation of the Communist Party between 1924 and 1927,which has important historical significance and unique historical color in modern Chinese history. Most studies on the history of the National Revolution are based on the revolutionary history dimension, and relatively few research results are based on the modernization perspective. This paper examines the National Revolution in the context of China’s early modernization process, explores the historical inevitability of the National Revolution, analyzes the impact of the National Revolution on China’s early modernization process, and then reveals the arduous process of exploring Chinese modernization, and provides inspiration and reference for the construction of Chinese modernization nowadays. This paper is divided into three parts. The first part explains the concepts and theories of modernization, early modernization, national revolution, and the relationship between revolution and modernization, while analyzing the historical inevitability of the rise of the national revolution from four aspects: the choice of the path of the post-haircut modernization state, the chaos and anarchy of the Northern Warlords, the help of Soviet Russia and the Communist International, and the common vision of the Nationalist and Communist Parties. The second part describes the historical process of the National Revolution. The National Revolution was carried out on the premise of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, and its theoretical basis was the New Three Democracies.Under the banner of this program, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party jointly set off the climax of the National Revolution-fighting against imperialism and feudalism, and the upsurge of the workers’ and peasants’ movements;however, amidst the sound of victory, the National Revolution also contained crises--the new right wing of the Kuomintang concocted the Dai Jitao Doctrine, planned the Zhongshan Ship Incident and the Party affairs case, which led to the breakup of the Kuomintang-communist cooperation and the ultimate defeat of the National Revolution. The third part discusses the dual impact of the National Revolution on the early modernization process in China and its historical inspiration. The victory of the National Revolution advanced China’s early modernization, and the upsurge of the workers’ and peasants’ movement played a role in political mobilization for early modernization.Of course, the breakup of the Communist Party and the defeat of the National Revolution also caused a setback in China’s early modernization. From this,we can draw historical inspiration: the united front is an important asset for the success of modernization, the Chinese Communist Party is the leader of China’s modernization, and the historical opportunity of modernization development should be seized. |
