A Report On The English To Chinese Translation Of Complex Sentences In AI For Learning(Excerpts) Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

With the rapid development of technology and the increased emphasis on education,Artificial Intelligence has a great impact on teaching and learning in an educational context and also great potential to promote learning and empower learning.In order to bring all positive factors of Artificial Intelligence into full play,it is very important to know how Artificial Intelligence can positively impact human learning.In addition,the translation of complex sentences has always been a difficult point in English to Chinese translation.It is common to use complex sentences in English,while in Chinese simple sentences are often used.Therefore,it is essential to select the translation theory and translation strategies properly.The translation report is based on the excerpts of the book AI for Learning written by Carmel Kent,Head of Educational Data Science at EDUCATE and Benedict du Boulay,Emeritus Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Sussex University,who introduced different supporting roles of AI and examined both the opportunities and risks.The original text is a scientific and technological text in which the complex sentences are commonly used with high logicality and accuracy,thus causing some difficulties during the process of translation.Under the guidance of the three rules of the Skopos Theory,the translator analyzes the translation methods when translating complex sentences so as to convey information more accurately and improve the quality of translation.Through the case analysis,the Skopos Theory has high applicability and great significance.The translator makes the following conclusions.Under the guidance of skopos rule,reconstruction,amplification,segmentation,embedding,omission can be used so as to present a translation in a way that the target readers expect.Under the guidance of coherence rule,reversing,omission,segmentation,sequencing and amplification can be used to improve the acceptability and readability.Under the guidance of fidelity rule,conversion,amplification,sequencing,omission and negation can be used to make the translation more faithful to the source text.This translation practice aims to apply Skopos Theory to analyze the translation methods of complex sentences and solve the problems encountered by the translator during the process of translation under the guidance of skopos rule,coherence rule,fidelity rule.Through the translation practice and analysis,the translator believes that the Skopos Theory has great application value in scientific and technological texts with high practicability.Furthermore,this translation practice enables the translator to have a deeper understanding of Skopos Theory and accumulate relevant experience for future translation practice,especially regarding to the same type of texts.
