Research On The Aesthetic Style Of Chinese Puzzle Films

Puzzle films are a type of film that usually leaves some puzzles or hints in the plot to stimulate the audience’s thinking and guessing,arousing their interest and curiosity.Instead of a simple linear narrative,this type of movie usually presents the storyline through recaps,jumps,intricate plots,etc.Its characteristic lies in its emphasis on the audience’s thinking and puzzle-solving process.The audience needs to guess the development of the storyline,the background and psychological state of the characters through the clues,hints and various hints left in the movie,in order to get a sense of satisfaction and surprise when the ending of the movie is revealed.Language as a form of cultural carrier,the Chinese language puzzle film has a distinctly traditional Chinese aesthetic in its textual form and thematic expression.As an import from the West,puzzle films have already shown a distinctly Eastern aesthetic style after entering the creative vision of Chinese films.Unlike the psychological expressions of Western puzzle films,Chinese puzzle films retain the basic features of puzzle films,but extend a unique lyrical expression.It incorporates elements of traditional Chinese culture and explores the complexity of "human beings",making the film more engaging,grounded and empathetic.To make the puzzles more subtle,Chinese puzzle films often present a more realistic view of the world through detailing,and the difficulty of the puzzles and the reasoning process are determined by the level of observation and detailing ability to attract the audience.The profound themes and the real world extended worldview allow Chinese puzzle films to explore human nature and social issues in great depth,often presenting profound themes and ideological connotations through the solution of puzzles,allowing the audience to gain spiritual inspiration and reflection in addition to the fun of deduction.This is not only an aesthetic self-awareness of the Chinese directors’ own oriental culture,but also a reflection of the oriental aesthetics presented in Chinese puzzle films.Traditional aesthetics focuses on"simplifying",creating a hazy aesthetic through extreme simplicity to give the viewer a certain aesthetic space,while making good use of symbolic colors to express complex ideas in the picture.This is usually a basic requirement for artistic creation.Nowadays,under the influence of "author films",Chinese puzzle films have gradually formed a film technique to express their own style.In this paper,we take Chinese puzzle films as the object of study,and use the perspective of Oriental aesthetics to delve into the complex narrative mechanism of Chinese puzzle films and investigate their "poetry".This paper will take Chinese puzzle films as the object of study and analyse the aesthetic style of Chinese puzzle films from the perspective of traditional aesthetic theory.
