The concept of jewelry has a wide range of meanings, usually narrow and broad. In a narrow sense, jewelry refers to headgear used by women to decorate;Jewelry in a broad sense refers to the general term for human body decorations, including hair accessories, earrings, hand accessories, necklaces, etc. The Khitan ethnic group is an important ethnic minority in ancient China, and the distinctive jewelry of the Khitan ethnic group is one of the representatives of ancient jewelry in China. With more and more Liao Dynasty tombs being unearthed,a large number of physical objects and murals unearthed from the tombs have provided us with very important information for studying the ethnic jewelry of the Khitan ethnic group, which is related to the history of the Liao Dynasty. The tomb of Yeluyu Yu and the tomb of Princess Chen led many archaeologists to study the jewelry of the Liao Dynasty. However, current research results generally list male and female jewelry together for research,or mostly focus on female jewelry, with few scholars studying male jewelry. The Liao Dynasty was a dynasty established by the Khitan ethnic group, forming a north-south confrontation with the Song Dynasty. It was a very important ethnic regime in ancient northern China and had strong cultural compatibility and inclusiveness. From the investigation of male jewelry in the Liao Dynasty,we can clearly see the fusion between two different ethnic groups: the "sinicization" of the Khitan people and the Khitanization of the Han people.Especially the Sinicization of the Khitan people has the characteristics of selectivity and spiral rise.In this process, they adhere to their own concept of "grassland ethnicity",from "nomadic" to "agriculture",from nomadic culture to agricultural culture, which is a necessary path for social development. This article aims to comprehensively review the male jewelry of the Liao Dynasty from the perspective of gender archaeology, and to explore its material craftsmanship, popular reasons, development process, and cultural factors,in an attempt to fill the research gap in this field.
