| This is a report on translation practice.The translator chooses the American writer Mark Vincent Lincir’s fiction The Gift of Stoppage Time as the practical material to translate chapters 3 to 9 of this book and discusses the dialogue translation in the form of a translation practice report.The fiction mainly tells a series of stories that happened during the hero’s preparation for a football match in the town to fulfill the wish of his friend who with cancer.The excerpt mainly introduces the protagonist’s mental journey and events,from visiting friends to making preparations for the competition.There are a lot of dialogues among characters in fiction,which contain a large number of slang and idioms,elliptical sentences,and parenthesis,making them the focus and difficulty of translation activities.Guided by communicative translation theory,the translator selects dialogues between characters in the fiction as the main research object.The translator sorts out and analyzes the dialogues containing slang and idioms,elliptical sentences,and parenthesis and adopts appropriate translation strategies to sort out and cope with the challenges encountered in the translation process as well as clarify the thinking in the process of translation and improve the accuracy and readability of the fiction translation.In addition,the translator hopes that this translation practice can enlighten and inspire the translator on the translation of similar texts. |
