| This paper studies the co-expectation in modern Mandarin Chinese, which is the expression of the speaker’s belief that the actual situation of a certain matter is fully or largely in line with the co-expectation of the subject so that the addressee can quickly deduce the expectations and understand the attitude and position of the speaker to ensure effective communication. To date, linguistic scholars have conducted few studies on co-expectations and the correlation between the results is not strong, and even the basic issues related to the characteristics and types of co-expectations are mostly raised in passing when discussing expectations and counter-expectation,and almost no one has conducted a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of co-expectations.This paper hopes to make a more comprehensive investigation of the co-expected expression in modern Mandarin Chinese. This paper is divided into five main parts. The first chapter is an introductory section, which firstly explains the object of the paper and the origin of the topic, secondly gives an overview of the existing co-expected research results,on the basis of which the problems that need to be solved and the significance of the research are presented, and finally indicates the theoretical approach and the sources of the corpus of the paper. The second chapter discusses the basic issues of co-expectation,including the definition, characteristics, categories and forms of co-expectation,and considers that co-expectation has the characteristics of comparative, state of affairs and subjectivity;the paper classifies co-expectation into two types of co-expectation,fully conforming and not fully conforming, according to whether it is fully conforming to expectation, and classifies the expressions of co-expectation in discourse into explicit and implicit forms. The third chapter focuses on the means of co-expectation markers, and on the basis of the function of co-expectation markers, the paper divides co-expectation markers into words, discourse markers and phrases according to their forms, and verifies whether a specific linguistic form is a co-expectation marker. The paper also excludes the language forms that are not co-expected markers in previous studies, and indicates their real roles. The fourth chapter analyzes the factors influencing the co-expectation,which indicates that stance expression is an important factor influencing the expression, and it can influence the type of expression and the use of specific markers;the context lays the foundation or provides the objective environment for the expression, and the rhetoric also influences the expression,in which the influence of stance expression and context on the co-expectation cannot be avoided, while the influence of rhetoric on the co-expectation is optional. The fifth chapter is the conclusion, which summarizes the research content of the whole paper and indicates the shortcomings of this study as well as the prospects and directions of future research. |
