Analysis Of Sino-US Trade Relations In Modern Times: 1880-1936

Modern trade between China and western countries developed along with the industrial development of western countries.Before the Sino-British War,Sino-British trade occupied an absolute advantage.After China’s defeat in 1895,western powers began to divide their spheres of influence in China,and China’s foreign trade was mainly controlled by the United States,Japan and the United Kingdom.Compared with Britain,the Industrial revolution of the United States was relatively late,and its trade share with China was not prominent before the 1920 s.Nor does the United States have a geographical advantage over Japan.In addition,the trade between China and Britain and Between China and Japan was characterized by colonial plunder,and China and the United States traded smoothly and normally without government interference,making the United States the country next only to Britain and Japan.Therefore,the aim of this paper is to focus on the modern sino-us trade is how to quickly change and adjustment,and puts the research of the trade relationship between China and the United States the background and the framework of modern industrial development in China and the United States,analyze and explain the modern sino-us trade volume,trade structure and trade conditions on the characteristics,to explore the sources of sinous trade endogenous vitality and sustainability.By comparing the trade situation between China and Britain,China and Japan,and China and America,this paper summarizes the characteristics of Sino-American trade which is different from the other two countries and three misunderstandings about sinoAmerican trade in the past.In the process of collating old customs statistics,this paper re-estimates the total volume of modern Sino-US trade from 1880 to 1936,and obtains the most real development status of modern Sino-US trade through comprehensive analysis of qualitative and quantitative research.The total volume of sino-US trade exceeds the previous estimate.The analysis of sino-US trade structure mainly explores the characteristics and evolution of sino-US trade structure from 1902 to 1936.On the basis of previous studies,a new classification method of trade commodities is established,which divides import and export commodities into three categories: beverage food category,raw materials and semi-woven goods category,and manufactured goods category.The major category is subdivided into two subcategories and three subcategories.Then,the paper makes an independent analysis of China’s import trade structure from the United States and China’s export trade structure to the United States,obtains the more important commodity types in each link of import and export in the process of Sino-AMERICAN trade,and summarizes the characteristics and evolution of Sino-American trade structure from 1902 to 1936.In the chapter of terms of trade,China’s comprehensive terms of trade with the United States were calculated.During 1902-1936,the overall trend was optimization and improvement.Before 1925,there was a slight trend of fluctuation and decline,and the comprehensive terms of trade slightly deteriorated.China’s comprehensive terms of trade with the United States have greatly improved.The single commodity terms of trade of 8 typical commodities of import and export are mainly deteriorated in the early stage and improved in the later stage,and finally the trend of trade development is in favor of China.Since the beginning of the 21 st century,Sino-US trade relationship has always been a key topic in the field of international relations.The historical experience of SinoUS trade has long-term strategic enlightenment and significance,and the internal laws of Sino-US trade have been integrated into the gene of long-term economic history evolution.Taking history as a mirror,we can know the rise and fall,and we can see the future through history.The historical law of sino-US trade development in modern times has an important reference significance for the current sino-US trade relations.
