A Report On The Translation Of Technology For The Processing Of Wasted Electronic Materials(Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Nowadays,with the rapid development of science and technology industry,wasted electronic materials has become the fastest growing garbage in the world,increasing by16%-28% each year.As a result,the subsequent increasing electronic pollution makes our living environment worse and worse.Therefore,the development of waste electronic recycling technology requires the joint efforts of experts from various countries.The source text of the author’s translation is Professor Wang Haichuan’s Technology for the Processing of Wasted Electronic Materials.Under the background that the utilization of waste resources can solve the problem of resource shortage and improve the ecological environment,the purpose of the author’s translation is that foreign experts can learn from China’s waste resource treatment technology and promote the development in the field of resource recycling.This report selects Chapter 10 of Technology for the Processing of Wasted Electronic Materials,which mainly introduces secondary copper smelting and processing technology.First of all,my report describes in detail the whole translation practice process from the first draft,post translation revision to the final draft.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author adopted various translation methods in accordance with different textual features of words,sentences and discourses,in an effort to make the translation faithful and coherent.Secondly,according to the characteristics of numerous professional words and fixed meanings in source text,literal translation and the conversion of translation are adopted to make the expression of the target words faithful.Sentences in scientific and technological texts are usually long sentences and complex sentences.Translation strategies,such as translating in the reverse-order,the change of the voices and combination,are used to achieve the purpose of communicating information.The text mainly focuses on cohesion and coherence,so omission and amplification used in text translation can make the text connect more closely and improve the readability of the translation.Finally,the author summarizes the difficulties encountered in this translation practice.In a word,we must make sufficient preparation before translation,translating every word and sentence with scientific,rigorous,serious and concentrate attitude,and the revision process after translation is also the key to improve the quality of the translation.This translation practice shows that under the guidance of Skopos theory,combining the three principles with specific translation methods from the vocabulary,sentence and text can obtain highly readable translation and realize the communicative purpose of translation.
