| This is an English-Chinese translation report based on a survey report of income and poverty under the circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic,titled “Income and Poverty in the COVID-19 Pandemic”,which is released in June 2020.The authors of this survey report analyze the income of American individuals and families during the COVID-19 pandemic based on different demographic groups and geographic areas,and they explore the effects brought by the government’s different responses.This survey report is of detailed data,providing some guidance to the government and policymakers to respond to large-scale economic shocks in the future.The translation material is an academic text.Given multiple factors including cultural background and reading experience,it is necessary to make a variety of language choices and adaptations in the process of translation,which is complying with the principle of adaptation theory.Thus,the translator chooses it as the guiding theory and employs multiple translation techniques to adapt to the target language and audiences from two angles adaptation to structural objects and adaptation to linguistic context.Specifically,the translator applies conversion,addition,and division in adaptation to structural objects and analyzes the representative cases from three features cohesion,intertextuality,and sequencing of adaptation to linguistic context.It is hoped that this translation practice can provide some reference points for translating academic texts about public policy in translation studies,and help Chinese scholars and students further understand the effectiveness of different responses to large shocks. |
