Women’s participation in politics,as an important way to safeguard their own interests and realize women’s liberation, has become an important measure to measure the progress of a country’s social civilization, and has attracted more and more attention from all over the world. With the development of the modernization process of Latin American countries since modern times and more and more women participating in social affairs, some traditional concepts of discrimination against women gradually fade away, and Latin American women’s political consciousness gradually began to awaken and mature with the women’s movement. In the end,the majority of women stepped out of the traditional family sphere and took a more active part in the decision-making of national political affairs.Women’s participation in politics has become a popular trend and has become a beautiful scenery in the political life of Latin America. However, challenges remain.Problems such as unemployment and poverty, the bondage of the concept of long-term subordination and the disconnect between the mechanism of protecting women’s rights and interests and the reality have all become obstacles to the further participation of Latin American women in political life and the realization of gender equality. In short,as the status of women is improving, the successful experience of women’s political participation in Latin America has not only attracted the attention of the world, but also provided a useful reference for women’s participation in political decision-making in other developing countries. This paper takes the issue of women’s political participation in Latin America as the research object, combined with domestic and foreign research results, which is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is a historical survey of women’s political participation in Latin American countries before the 1970 s.Latin American women have appeared in the political arena since the colonial era.At that time, the form of Latin American women’s participation in politics was mainly closely combined with the national liberation struggle.Later,as Latin American countries became independent and began the process of modernization, more and more women stepped out of the traditional private sphere and became active in the political arena. They not only fought for their own liberation, but also became the main force driving social change and historical development. The second chapter mainly introduces the background of women’s political participation in Latin America since the 1970 s.First of all,in terms of the international background, with the development of political multi-polarization and economic globalization, the United Nations and other major organizations attach importance to the issue of women’s political participation and the vigorous development of the international women’s political participation movement, creating favorable conditions for women’s political participation in Latin America.Secondly, within Latin America, after the severe damage caused by frequent regime instability and economic crisis, there is a general awareness that the democratization process and the restoration of pluralistic institutions must be put on the agenda, thus providing space for the broad participation of Latin American women in social and political affairs.Third, most countries in Latin America have adopted relevant anti-discrimination policies and measures through legislation and other means to safeguard women’s rights and interests and promote women’s political participation. In addition, with the rise of the center-left and the promotion of regional women’s organizations, they not only further stimulate the awakening and development of Latin American women’s political consciousness, but also provide a broader space and possibility for women to participate in politics. The third chapter summarizes the main contents of women’s political participation in Latin America since the 1970 s.During this period,Latin American women’s enthusiasm and ability to participate in politics were generally improved, and women from all walks of life participated in political affairs extensively, forming the characteristics of diversified political participation subjects, diversified forms of political participation and extensive political participation topics, among which anti-dictatorship,anti-violence and other diversified political participation topics were the focus. It has not only become the main topic of women’s political participation since the 1970 s,but also made outstanding contributions to the further realization of women’s human rights cause. The fourth chapter introduces the achievements of women’s political participation in Latin America since the 1970 s.This is reflected in the growing number of Latin American women in top political positions, far more than anywhere else in the world. From national policies to community issues, women are involved. At the same time,a large number of institutions specializing in women’s issues and promoting gender equality began to be established in Latin American countries, which made the social status of Latin American women constantly improved and widely recognized. The fifth chapter discusses the constraints of women’s political participation in Latin America.Although Latin America has made outstanding achievements in women’s political participation, there are still shortcomings and limitations, which are mainly reflected in the constraints of poverty and other practical problems, the phenomenon of social discrimination, women’s awareness of political participation still needs to be improved, and the legal mechanism to protect women’s rights and interests in political participation is insufficient. These have become a stumbling block to women’s participation in political life and expansion of their rights and interests in Latin America.
