English reading is an important way for students to learn English and acquire English knowledge, and it is of vital significance throughout the English learning process. Therefore, enhancing students’ reading levels and reading skills plays an important role in students’ full use of English to communicate and gaining a deeper understanding of the world.English reading is an important part of students’ language skills and plays a pivotal part in English teaching. However, there are still many problems in the current teaching of English reading in junior high school, such as the outdated teaching methods used, and only focusing on vocabulary, grammar teaching and the final result in the process of English reading teaching. These problems cause students to have little interest in reading and even cause students to be very afraid of learning English, which will not only have significantly affected the improvement of students’ reading abilities, but also have a negative impact on the improvement of students’ thinking qualities.Enhancing students’ reading skills is a concern for all the English teachers. In order to change the current situation of English reading teaching in junior high school, this paper makes a plan to rationally use the “Question Chain”Teaching Mode reasonably to carry out the English teaching work. This teaching mode means that teachers combine some teaching objectives and teaching contents to make teaching hierarchical and organized,so that knowledge can be presented to students one by one and the teaching links can be interlocked, thus effectively cultivating students’ reading abilities and thinking qualities. This thesis rationally uses the “Question Chain” Teaching Mode to carry out English reading teaching in junior high school. At the same time, based on the constructivist theory and the theory of the nearest development zone, this paper integrates questionnaires, interviews and tests to analyze the problems of using the“Question Chain” Teaching Mode in English reading teaching in junior high school, and give some optimized countermeasures. The analysis of this paper is based on the following two questions:(1)Can the “Question Chain” Teaching Mode enhance junior high school students’ interest in English reading?(2)Can the “Question Chain”Teaching Mode increase the English reading scores of junior high school students? In the course of this study,140 students from Class 2 and Class 3,Grade 8 of a junior high school in Nanchong, who are taught by the author, are used as the research objects, with Class 2 as the experimental class and Class 3 as the control class. The experimental class are taught English reading using the “Question Chain” Teaching Mode, while the control class are taught English reading using the general reading teaching mode. The information obtained from the questionnaires and the interviews is analyzed, and the English reading scores of the two classes before and after tests are compared and analyzed using SPSS 22.0.This study proves that the “Question Chain” Teaching Mode can be effectively applied in junior high school English reading teaching, which can enhance junior high school students’ interest in English reading and significantly increase their English reading scores. What is more,in order to effectively apply the“Question Chain” Teaching Mode in junior high school English reading teaching, this paper also gives the basic principles, the process and the basis for designing the“Question Chain”,and puts forward the following three issues that need to be paid attention to in the actual use of the “Question Chain” Teaching Mode:(1)selecting objects scientifically;(2)controlling the entire teaching process reasonably;(3)guiding the students to ask questions actively.
