The source text of this report is selected from an article Leisure in the Spare-time Spectrum jointly written by Elias and Dunning. The article is a paper on sports sociology, whose main content is about some ideas and arguments proposed for leisure activities. And it is of great significance for the research and development of sports sociology, which has more than 10 thousand words and owns no Chinese translation yet according to the findings of the translator,so the article was chosen as the source text of this translation report.Based on the contents of several works,it can be concluded that it is Katharina Reiss who first proposes text typology. However,Newmark also provided his opinions in this regard, which is the theoretical basis used in this report.According to text typology theory, scientific texts on the theme of sports sociology belong to typical informative texts, which stresses the effect of information transmission and expresses the views of the original author,so it is suitable for communicative translation strategy. In addition, there are also some expressive and vocative texts in the original text that both have expressive and vocative functions, which emphasize the personality and authority of the original author who can release emotions through them,so it is suitable for semantic translation strategy. The difference between the two translation strategies is that communicative translation stresses effect and the response of the target readers, while semantic translation emphasizes content and the reproduction of the language style and thinking process of the original text. This report selects corresponding and optimum translation strategies for different text types in order to produce high-quality translations. In response to the translation of difficult words, unclear sentence meanings, and complex textual structures, this study conducts in-depth analysis and interpretation of the translated version at the lexical, syntactical, and discourse levels, and explores appropriate translation strategies. At the lexical level, for difficult words, semantic translation strategy is adopted in combination with literal translation, retaining the objectivity of academic articles and being faithful to the original text.At the syntactical level,in response to the unclear meaning of the original sentence, communicative translation strategies have been adopted in combination with free translation and additional translation to help readers to break the language barrier. At the discourse level, aiming at the many long and complex sentences existing in the source language text, cohesive methods and communicative translation strategies are adopted to make the translated version more in line with the expressive norms of the target reader and increase the reader’s beautiful reading experience.Aiming at the problem that the logical relationship of the context in the original text is not obvious, communicative translation strategy is adopted through the usage of logical reconstruction and shifting line of narrative thought to achieve the effect of keeping the translated version consistent with the original content. The report confirms that text typology theory provides a theoretical basis for the translation practice. After identifying different text types, combined with semantic translation and communicative translation, the translated version can achieve better translation effects, making it both close to the original text and consistent with the writing habits of the target language. Therefore, the translator sincerely hopes that this report can make certain contributions to the research and development of sports sociology, and provide reference for the translation of similar texts.
