| "Language acquisition" is one of the main methods used by Wittgenstein’s later philosophy to eliminate philosophical problems.Wittgenstein usefully quotes the picture of language acquisition described by Augustine in the first section of the whole book of Philosophical Investigations.Then,by means of thought experiment,the original situation of language learning is conceived,that is,the language game of construction workers.After commenting on Augustine,in the sixth section,Wittgenstein put forward "ostensive teaching of words".In the seventh section,he also called the training activities of "ostensive teaching of words" as "language game".Why did Wittgenstein propose "ostensive teaching of words" ? The goal of this paper is to analyze and discuss this question,and try to give a positive answer to this question.Therefore,the first chapter is the introduction.I mainly introduce the research significance,research status and research approach of this topic.The second chapter explains how Wittgenstein got rid of the "ostensive definition",and then put forward "ostensive teaching of words".The "ostensive definition" does not meet the basic conditions of how human beings acquire languages at first.It presupposes that language learners themselves have mastered certain language skills.At the same time,the "ostensive definition" leads to the contradiction of "referential uncertainty".It refers to the fact that "ostensive teaching of words" conforms to the basic conditions of how human beings first acquire language,which can be explained and proved from the perspective of anthropology.The third chapter details the "pointing action" as the basis of "ostensive teaching of words".The best example is how human children learned the first words in the original scene of language games.The initial acquisition of language can not be separated from body language,especially pointing gestures.Body language is human’s innate language.Evolutionary linguistics has a convincing research on this.The fourth chapter expounds different types of " ostensive teaching of words ",including simple nouns,psychological vocabulary,and the social norms of ostensive teaching of words.Without "ostensive teaching of words",people who do not have a certain language ability can not learn words,including psychological vocabulary.There must be a difference between the communication of language and the communication of human’s innate body language.This difference has created the intellectual world that we build with words.The conclusion is at the end."Ostensive teaching of words" paves the way towards the meaning of the words of Wittgenstein’s later philosophy. |
