The 16 th century to the early 17 th century was the prosperous period of Italian madrigals,whose development went through three stages,which can be divided into the early stage(c.1525~1560),the middle stage(C.1540~1580)and the late stage(C.1580~1620).This paper mainly studies the Italian madrigals from 1580 to 1620.This stage is its flourishing period,which is characterized by novel creative techniques and strong emotional color.It has an important influence in Europe and has a great influence on the music creation of other European countries.Therefore,it is of great academic value and significance to study the style characteristics and influence of Italian madrigals in this period.Two representative composers of this period,Monteverdi and Gesualdo,wrote a large number of madrigals.Monteverdi wrote nine volumes of the Madrigals,which contain more than two hundred madrigals,as well as twenty-one religious madrigals.In total,Gesualdo wrote more than 150 madrigals,and madrigals are the most important area of his creation.This paper mainly analyzes and studies the madrigals of Monteverdi and Gesualdo.This paper consists of seven chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly explains the research significance,research status and research methods.The second chapter introduces the emergence of Italian madrigals in the 14 th century and the development of Italian madrigals in the 16 th and early 17 th centuries.The third chapter introduces the style evolution of Italian madrigals in the second half of the 16 th century,the creative techniques of Italian madrigals from the end of the 16 th century to the beginning of the 17 th century and the dramatic features of the works themselves.The fourth chapter introduces and analyzes Monteverdi’s life and composition of madrigals,the use of rhythm and dissonant intervals in Monteverdi’s composition technique of "stirring style",and the expression of emotion in Monteverdi’s madrigals.The fifth chapter introduces and analyzes Gesualdo’s life and pastoral creation,the use of "semitone",and the expression of emotion in Gesualdo’s pastoral works.The sixth chapter the influence of Italian madrigals(1580-1620)on the music of England,Germany,Denmark and Holland.Chapter seven is the conclusion.
