| With the increasing development of modern information technology,changes have also taken place in the way people learn English.The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022)not only puts forward requirements for the application of computers and digital technology in teaching and learning,but also emphasizes that teachers should guide students to be fond of learning and good at learning.Gamification teaching combines education with games,which satisfies students’ interest and motivation in learning.The games involved in gamification teaching can be either games,game elements,game ideas,or educational software integrating education and games(such as the educational game Baicizhan).In view of this,based on the self-determination theory and the Input Hypothesis theory,this study takes the educational game Baicizhan as the gamification teaching tool to explore the following questions:(1)How does gamification teaching affect the vocabulary learning motivation of students?(2)How does gamification teaching affect the vocabulary learning performance of students?Using the vocabulary motivation questionnaire,the vocabulary knowledge scale and the interview outline as research tools,two parallel classes of the second year of junior high school in Changzhuang School,Suiping County,Henan Province,are selected for this study.The experimental class carries out gamification teaching using the educational game Baicizhan as the gamification tool,while the control group conducts traditional vocabulary teaching to study the effect of gamification teaching on the vocabulary learning motivation and the vocabulary learning performance of students.The results show that: With the help of the abundant functions and interesting gamification elements in the educational game Baicizhan,teachers can not only reduce students’ Amotivation,improve Extrinsic Motivation and Intrinsic Motivation of vocabulary learning,but also realize the comprehensible input of students in vocabulary knowledge and improve their performance in vocabulary learning.However,the Identified Regulation in Extrinsic Motivation is about the impact of vocabulary learning on the ideal life,and is basically formed at the beginning of English learning,so it is difficult to improve.Although there are some limitations in this study in terms of the research subject,research time and research content,it is helpful to provide some suggestions for the reform and practice of English vocabulary teaching in junior high schools at present,and also provides certain implication for vocabulary teaching in the future.Firstly,students should make maximum advantage of their subjective initiative in the learning process,set appropriate learning objectives and enhance the awareness of independent learning to improve the vocabulary learning motivation.Secondly,teachers should manage the relationship between various roles in the teaching process,discover the value of gamification teaching and adjust it in the application according to the actual situation.Finally,the design of teaching tools(such as the educational game Baicizhan used in this study)should be constantly improved and perfected according to the syllabus and the characteristics of the vocabulary. |
