| The Health China 2030 Outline Plan states that health is an inevitable requirement for promoting all-round human development and a basic condition for economic and social development, and that promoting a healthy China strategy is an important foundation for achieving socialist modernization.Exploratory research on the relationship between diet and negative emotions can help people better understand and promote mental and physical health.A previously conducted study on diet and negative emotions have been conducted from a single perspective and have not taken into account the interaction between dietary intention and behavior.Based on this, this study explores the relationship between healthy diet and negative emotion in the context of the dietary characteristics of Chinese residents, and investigates the influence of the consistent relationship between healthy dietary intentions and behaviors on negative emotion.Study 1 collected cross-sectional data by administering questionnaires to 1433 college students in eight universities. The results showed that in the behavioral intention stage: first, healthy dietary behavior intention and healthy dietary behavior were significant predictors of depression and anxiety.Second, the four elements of healthy dietary behavioral intention of food variety, dietary balance, appropriate seasoning and portion control had low predictive explanatory rates for healthy dietary behaviors.Third,in the results of the healthy dietary intention-behavior relationship affecting negative emotions, there was no significant difference between the effect of consistency and inconsistency of healthy dietary behavior intention and healthy dietary behavior on depressed and anxious emotions;the degree of consistency of healthy dietary intention-behavior was able to affect the subjects’ experience of negative emotions;the type of inconsistency of healthy dietary intention-behavior had a significant difference on the subjects’ experience of negative emotions.Study 2 collected a total of 1132 data nodes through an 11-day diary study of 117 college students. The results showed that in the stage of implementation intention:first, there was no significant effect of healthy meal implementation intention on subjects’ depression and anxiety, while healthy meal behavior was a significant predictor of subjects’ depression and anxiety.Secondly,There were statistically significant differences among healthy meal execution intention and healthy meal behavior.Third,in the results of the healthy dietary executive intention-behavior relationship affecting negative emotions, there were significant differences between the consistency and inconsistency of healthy dietary executive intention and healthy dietary behavior on anxiety;the degree of consistency of healthy dietary intention-behavior could affect the subjects’ experience of negative emotions;and the type of inconsistency of healthy dietary intention-behavior had significant differences on the effect of anxiety. In summary, this study concludes that:(1)Healthy dietary behavioral intentions and eating habits predict lower levels of depression and anxiety.(2)Individuals do not necessarily consume food as they would expect, regardless of whether it is a healthy dietary behavioral intention or an executive intention, and intention-behavior consistency relationships can be classified into four types by the level of scores.(3)The stages of behavioral change can lead to different effects of healthy dietary intention-behavior relationships on negative emotions. In the behavioral intention or executive intention stage, individuals’ depression and anxiety decreased as their intention-behavior congruence level increased, and was best in the "high-high" intention-behavior relationship matching type.(4)In the behavioral intention stage, individuals showed less depression and anxiety when facing the actual healthy dietary behavior that failed to meet expectations, while in the implementation intention stage, individuals who failed to meet expectations felt more anxiety. This may be caused by the fact that individuals perceive the inconsistency of healthy dietary intention-behavior as a challenge in the behavioral intention stage but as a threat in the implementation intention stage. |
