Dunhuang is located at the end of Hexi Corridor, which witnessed the intersection of different civilizations on the Silk Road.It is the largest Buddhist art resort in China, and its murals are grand and unique in the world.Golden-winged bird, also known as Garuda,as a Buddhist god bird,is also one of the mural themes. The golden-winged birds in Dunhuang are mainly from the changed paintings, and a small number of them appear at the top of the cave for decoration.Among many Buddhist images from India, the golden winged bird in Dunhuang is unique, which is the product of the collision of Indian culture,Qiuci culture and Central Plains culture.A total of 36 images of Dunhuang goldfinches were collected through investigation, which spanned from the Northern Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty, with the most images in the Tang Dynasty. The image of golden-winged bird in Dunhuang can be divided into three types: bird-like,human-faced and portrait-like.Each type has different reasons and is influenced by golden-winged bird culture in different regions. On the basis of understanding and analyzing the image types of Dunhuang goldfinch, this paper discusses the reasons and influences of the image changes of each type of goldfinch. With the spread of Buddhist culture, the image of golden-winged bird is not static, and it is constantly combined with local culture during the spread, gradually moving towards localization and secularization. The shape change of goldfinch is not only the result of cultural exchange, but also the product of cultural innovation of different cultures.
