A Report On E-C Translation Of Medical Texts Under The Guidance Of Text Typology Theory

Endocrinology is a vital and young subject in biological and medical science.It has developed rapidly due to the rise of modern scientific and technological revolutions.In recent years,endocrine diseases tend to appear at young people.More and more young people and even children suffer from endocrine disorders,which has a negative impact on their lives.Therefore,endocrinology has attracted more and more attention.Written by experts in the field,Endocrine Conditions in Pediatrics is a valuable medical resource that provides general pediatricians and other primary care providers with some information.Peter · Newmark divided the text into informative text,expressive text and vocative text.He thought that different translation methods should be applied to different texts,emphasized the combination of semantic translation and communicative translation.Endocrine Conditions in Pediatrics is a medical text,which belongs to informative text.Based on Text Typology Theory,the author adopts the translation methods of literal translation and free translation,and the translation techniques of conversion of voice,division and reconstructing,in order to achieve semantic translation and communicative translation.At the lexical level,literal translation is used to translate technical terms,and free translation is adopted to translate common words.At the syntactic level,conversion of voice is employed to translate passive sentences,and division and reconstructing to tackle complex and compound sentences.At the textual level,lexical cohesion,grammatical cohesion and logical cohesion are discussed.In this translation practice,the author finds that Text Typology Theory is feasible to guide medical translation,and summarizes three suggestions on medical translation:common words can be translated according to professional knowledge and context;passive sentences can be solved by conversion of voice;long and complex sentences can be translated by division and reconstructing.The author hopes that the above experience can be helpful to translators.
