| This report’s source text is the cultural text Dragon Sacrifice of the Huayao Yi which introduces the ceremony offering sacrifices to ancestors of the Huayao Yi people in Malishu Village,Shiping County,Yunnan Province in detail,presenting the Huayao Yi people’s profound and unique ethnic culture.As basis of this report,Part II-Part IV of the text mainly describes the origin,basic elements and main procedures of the ceremony and completely represents the ritual’s procedures and significance,valuable to anthropology and folklore research.How to represent the sacrifice culture of the Huayao Yi people and its cultural and historical value is the focus and difficulty of this translation practice.Skopos Theory has shifted the focus of translation studies from the correlation between the target text and the source text to the intended effect of the target text,which has helped address the shortcomings of traditional translation theories.Therefore,it is adopted as the guiding theory.Following the guidance of the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule of Skopos Theory and probing into the differences between Chinese and English,the translator applies such translation techniques as annotation,division,conversion,inversion and omission to represent the anthropological and folklore value of the source text. |
