A C-E Translation Report On Geo-technical Investigation Report On Soft Foundation Treatment Project For Industrial Land (Phase Iii) Of Donghai Island

This translation report is based on the entrusted project Geo-technical Investigation Report on Soft Foundation Treatment Project for Industrial Land(Phase III)of Donghai Island.The project features in strong professionalism and typical characteristics of non-literary texts with fixed and rigorous wording,repeated patterns and standardized expression.And for its short delivery cycle,it is suitable to adopt machine translation post-editing(MTPE).As SDL Trados is a popular CAT tool,it has multiple built-in translation engines,powerful corpus and term base allowing translators to avoid many repetitive works,maintaining the unity of terminology and translation style as much as possible so as to improve translation quality and efficiency.The author chooses SDL Trados with built-in Google translation engine to translate.However,Trados still has many deficiencies,and it is far from meeting the delivery standards required by customers.If translators have a good understanding of MT errors and the corresponding solutions,they can greatly improve the efficiency and quality of final output.Therefore,the author takes this translation project as the focus of research under the guidance of Chinese national standard GB/T 40036-2021 Translation services —Post-editing of machine translation output — Requirements.The author summarizes and analyzes MT errors at lexical,syntactic,discourse and format levels,including mistranslation,omission,redundancy,tense and voice errors etc.,and provides solutions like supplementation and replacement,reorganizing the sentence structure,adjusting the word order,and rewriting.The author hopes in the future translation,MT errors can be quickly identified and located,solutions can be found promptly so as to improve translation efficiency and final output quality.
