| This is a report based on the English-Chinese translation of High Food/Fertilizer Prices and War in Ukraine,a series of research-based blogs released by International Food Policy Research Institute.The translated documents for this report are to explain the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the global food and fertilizer markets in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic downturn,and to offer policy solutions to problems such as food and fertilizer crises,as well as the plight of vulnerable population in Least Developed Countries.As news commentary,the translated blogs convey the fact,interpret phenomenon,and express opinions on the latest events in a timely,commentary-based,and professional manner.These documents exhibit the traits of a composite text according to Reiss’ text typology.Based on Reiss’ text typology,this reports attempts to interpret the difficulties encountered in translation of the informative and the operative texts.In informative texts,this report examines the translation methods of proper nouns,charts and sentences with lengthy adverbials,and concludes that literal translation method is mainly adopted.As for operative texts,the translation methods for headlines and positioning-loaded words are examined,and it is found that free translation method is mainly used,including translation techniques such as addition,omission,inversion,and conversion. |
