| Bolstered by economic boom,various high techs become possible,satiating our demands for food,water,energy,medical treatment,and many others.However,these technologies not only bring convenience to human life,but also cause pollution to various extents.Proper waste disposal,effective pollution control and immediate environmental improvement now are hot issues among the general public,mass media and society,thus a related material is chosen with an expectation of providing references and experience for environmental conservation in China.The original text for this report is selected from the first three chapters of Mr.Subijoy Dutt’s Environmental Treatment Technologies for Municipal,Industrial and Medical Wastes: Remedial Scope and Efficacy,which encompasses the characteristics and properties of different pollutants and the treatment technology and process of various wastes.Guided by back transformation theory and based on the sentence features,syntactic structure and thinking pattern and idiomatic ways of expression of the target language,six translation methods,including “forward reconstruction”,“backward reconstruction”,“split reconstruction”,“merge reconstruction”,“structure reconstruction”and “comprehensive reconstruction”,are creatively utilized to analyze,decompose,convert and reorganize long and difficult sentences encountered in the translation process to ensure the accuracy and readability of the translated text.Through the translation practice,the author has gained a deeper understanding of back transformation theory and a better learning of interdisciplinary knowledge,enhanced the ability of using translation skills learned to tackle problems and mastered highly efficient chart processing techniques.The experience in translating scientific and technological texts from English to Chinese is sure to consolidate the foundation of the author’s future career and provide some inspirations or experience to translators who are engaged in academic translation of this field. |
