China is the hometown of tea with a long history of tea culture. As one of the excellent traditional cultures, tea culture has always attracted attention from home and abroad. Therefore, the translation research on tea is very important. This is a Chinese-English translation practice report, and the translated text is Introduction to Tea Science, which aims to explore the production and processing process of different types of tea and the spreading of tea culture. The fourteenth chapter The Processing of Oolong Tea is selected as the translation practice and Reiss’ s Text Typology theory is selected in this report to guide and analyze the source texts and the translation.Text type is inseparable from translation, and thus the determination of text type and its function is of great significance to the selection of translation methods.According to “fidelity”,the primary rule in informative text translation, translator analyzed features of the source texts at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels, and adopted corresponding translation strategies, striving to be faithful to source texts. This translation practice report consists of five chapters. They are the description of the translation project, the text analysis of Introduction to Tea Science, the theoretical basis, and the case analysis and summary. The first chapter is the project description, which mainly introduces the process, the purpose, and the significance of the translation project. The second chapter analyzes the text of Introduction to Tea Science, mainly from the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels to analyze the translated text. The third chapter is the theoretical basis. After analyzing the translated text, the translator chooses Reiss’ s Text Typology theory as the theoretical basis for this translation practice and determines that the main translation principle of this text is the principle of fidelity. The fourth chapter is the case study,it elaborates translation methods employed according to the language features of the informative text under the guidance of fidelity rule. The fifth chapter is the conclusion.Through this translation practice, the translator hopes to improve her translation ability in agricultural science and technology texts and provide reference for the translation of such texts.
