In order to investigate the effect of changes in source language speed on the quality of consecutive interpreting, this experimental report is intended to focus on the following three questions: 1.What is the effect of source language rate change on the fidelity and terminology accuracy of English-Chinese consecutive interpreting? 2.What is the effect of source language rate change on the fluency of English-Chinese consecutive interpreting? 3.What is the effect of source language rate change on the cognitive psychology of the translator? In order to solve the above problems, this paper is intended to select 25 interpreting graduate students from a foreign language university in Northeast China as experimental subjects, and take Gile ’s Effort Model as the theoretical basis, record the interpreting performance of the experimental subjects under three different speech rates, and further analyze the questionnaire and post-interview,and conclude as follows: 1.In the process of consecutive English-Chinese interpretation,as the speed of the source language increases, the faithfulness and terminological accuracy of the translated language decreases, and the growth rate of speech speed is negatively correlated with the faithfulness and terminological accuracy of the translation.2.As the speed of the source language increases, the fluency of the translated language also increases, and the faster the speech speed, the higher the fluency of the translated language.3.As the speed of the source language increases, the psychological pressure on the translator increases, the frequency of use of translation skills decreases, and the number of missed and incorrect translations increases. It is hoped that this experiment can provide a reference for interpreting education, interpreting practice, interpreting research and the development of interpreting teaching materials.
