| In recent years, more and more scholars pay attention to mate preference, especially female mate preference. When women perceive the environment with different sex ratios, their mate preferences will also be different.Resources are important factors that affect people’s choice of mate.Personality traits greatly affect satisfaction in intimate relationships;Implicit research also found that women prefer masculine men.To what extent do resources, personality traits, and masculinity influence women’s choices for long-term relationships(couples)versus short-term relationships(boyfriends and girlfriends)? In addition, will the perception of different gender ratios affect women’s mating preferences?Based on this, this study focuses on three questions: First, how much do resources, personality traits and masculinity affect female college students’ mate preferences? Secondly,do the effects of the three factors differ in the perception of different sex ratios? Finally,do the three groups differ in their choice of long-term and short-term relationships under different perceived gender ratios? Theoretically,it enriched the theoretical research of mate preference, broadened the research content of sex ratio, and provided theoretical support for related intervention research. In practice,it is beneficial to improve the satisfaction of love and marriage relationship by providing reference for young men and women to choose a mate and improve their probability of finding a high-quality and suitable partner. This study adopts the method of forced selection experiment, and the research object is female college students in a university in Jiangxi Province. In order to make the study more ecological, the study specifically included two experiments. In the first experiment,164 female college students were selected as subjects and pictures were used as priming cues.In experiment 2,110 female college students were selected as subjects, and text materials were used as the starting clue.Single-factor inter-subject design was used in both experiments, and the perception of sex ratio was controlled as the independent variable.Mate preferences of three dimensions(resources, personality traits and masculinity)were the outcome variables.According to the results of two experimental studies, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)When considering the long-term relationship, female college students pay more attention to the three dimensions, that is,they have higher requirements for potential partners.(2)In the comparison of preference degree of three dimensions of masculinity, resources and personality traits, female college students’ personality traits ranked first, resources second, and masculinity last.(3)When the perceived number of women was greater, that is,when the sex ratio was dominant, the emphasis on masculinity tended to increase.Based on the above research conclusions, modern male college students should not only increase their knowledge reserve, enhance their talent and ability, but also cultivate their personality traits. At the same time, they can also cultivate their masculinity,so as to improve their own advantages in mate selection and help them adapt to the increasingly competitive social mate selection environment. |
