The Translation Of Foregrounded Language In Prose Texts

The report is based on the translation of the prose collection Ever Green by John W.Reid and Thomas E.Lovejoy.It tells the story of the current state of the wild mega-forests in magnificent prose in order to appeal to people to protect the forests,combat climate change and save the planet’s home.The text is a prose text within a literary text and is mainly characterized by a richer phenomenon of foregrounding language,including deviation,creation of new words,repetition,and parallelism.Foregrounded language is an important concept in literature,a purposeful violation of conventional language that makes the reader feel unexpected,new and unique.Foregrounding in the selected texts is divided into two categories: quality foregrounding and quantity foregrounding,of which quality foregrounding includes lexical deviations,writing deviations and grammatical deviations,and quantity foregrounding includes repetitive structures and parallel structures.The author adopts the translation strategy of naturalization,the translation method of Italian translation and the translation techniques of addition,subtraction and exchange of translation to translate the foregrounded language.In the process of this translation practice report,the translator summarizes and categorizes the phenomenon of foregrounding in prose texts,and discusses the problems and solutions in the translation process based on the theories of literature,linguistics and translation studies.The translator also hopes that this translation practice report can provide certain translation ideas and solutions for dealing with the phenomenon of foregrounding in prose texts,and has certain reference value for translators who translate the same type of texts.
