| Listening comprehension is considered as the first step of interpretation and has an important influence on the subsequent segments of interpretation. For German-Chinese consecutive interpretation,German listening comprehension has always been difficult due to the great differences in pronunciation, word formation and sentence construction between German and Chinese. Therefore,it is worth discussing how to solve this problem in order to optimize the interpretation. The case studied in the thesis is the Mock Conference of Christian P(?)pplen’s lecture on "Translating for Swiss Federal Parliament".Through comparison between the source language and its interpreted version,as well as referring to Gill’s listening comprehension equation the thesis points out that there are three factors which will impact the efficiency of listening comprehension, which are linguistic knowledge,extra-linguistic knowledge and analysis.Inadequate linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge as well as inappropriate use of analysis could lead to output errors or incoherent connections.Based on this conclusion, this thesis suggested that the interpreters can also start with these three factors and take targeted strategies to solve the comprehension problem, namely constantly expanding the linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge bases as well as adopting proper information analysis strategies. |
