Since the Second World War,Western capitalism has undergone profound changes from production relations to social relations.As a female artist who attracts worldwide attention today,Marlene Dumas’ s works have a unique style,strong conceptuality and profound connotation,representing the main trend of contemporary Western modern art thought.Her concept of artistic creation comes from the context of postmodernist culture on the one hand,and her own complex upbringing on the other.Exploring the purpose of Western modern art creation and the necessity of contemporary shelf art,this paper takes Western postmodernist culture as its research background.The initial section of the article elucidates the comprehension and definition of images in this article.as well as the diverse understanding of image recreation in modern art.In the second chapter,the fundamental experience and creative process are mainly presented Dumas.The third part explores the re-creation of images in Marlene Dumas’ s works from the perspectives of "painting itself","image and painting",and "viewer and painting".Summarizing three directions of artistic creation,this article will explore shelf painting in mixed media,the nature of image and artistic recreation,and the viewer and painting.It is hoped that through the compilation and discourse of this article,I will gain insight further improve my understanding of painting,construct my own painting concept,and lay a more solid theoretical foundation and framework for future creation.
