Study On Multiple Perspectives Narrative And Circular Narrative In God Help The Child

Toni Morrison is so far the first and the only women novelist who had won the Nobel Prize in literature in the history of America.The dualism for her being both as a woman and a black provides huge possibility in her creating,thus making her work full of deep observation and exquisite setting.God Help the Child,the last work published in 2015,has attracted academic attention since its publication and has been thoroughly studied from the perspectives of racism,trauma writing,and child care at home and abroad.Recently,many researchers have gradually found the joint effect of the narrative structure and the theme expression,deepening theoretical achievements of classical narratology and postclassical narratology going hand in hand and promoting each other.The thematic meaning under the postclassical narratology perspective is not static;And the new meaning lies in the integration and creation of textual structure and interpretation itself.Based on the review of previous research,this study focuses on the relationship between formal structure and content interpretation according to postclassical narratology,and analyzes the narrative characteristics of God Help the Child with multiple perspectives narrative and circular narrative as starting points.The concept and mode of classical narratology are used to analyze the theme of the work with attention to the construction of the overall logic of the story,and it focuses on exploring the interaction between the interpretation of the theme and the structural characteristics of the text.The research focuses on its narrative characteristics,and unfolds from the following two aspects: firstly,the features of narration are analyzed from the way the story unfolds as the multiple perspectives narrative and the circular narrative;Secondly,this thesis conducts in-depth research on the combination of internal analysis and external analysis of the novel,and points out that the multiple perspectives narrative and the circular narrative have synergistic and deepening effects on the interpretation of thematic meaning.The study finds that this novel is organically unified in narrative structure and theme interpretation,and the two jointly serve the construction of literary ideology.First of all,the application of multiple perspectives narrative is organically combined with the repetition of the plot to convey the same theme.Secondly,the author constructs the framework of circular narrative from the macro level and the micro level respectively,and uses magical reality writing to blur the boundaries of time and space,combined with the unfocused stream of consciousness description and interlocking suspense setting to retrace racial trauma and parent-child trauma in a deep sense,echoing the theme in form.Thirdly,this research interprets the theme through the formal narrative,pointing out that narrative characteristics have a synergistic and deepening effect on thematic interpretation,showing the joint effect of the micro narrative and macro theme interpretation.This study reveals the multi-dimensional relationship between narrative structure and thematic interpretation,and explores the interaction between thematic meaning and text structure in postclassical narratology theory.The research can provide us with certain enlightenment and reference for examining and discussing the psychological recovery process of women’s self-consciousness and post-traumatic self-healing and healing reflected in God Help the Child,and also points out the significance and influence of narrative research on this work.
