Tang Yifen(1778-1853),styled Yusheng,was born in Wujin,Jiangsu Province.Because his father was martyred for the Qing Court,he was awarded the post of Yunqi lieutenant,and was appointed deputy general of the Yueqing Association in Zhejiang Province.After becoming an official,he lived in Jiangning,Nanjing for more than 20 years.In the third year of Xianfeng(1853),the city of Nanjing was defeated by the Taiping Army,and Tang Yifen died in the water with his staff.He was posthumously honored by Emperor Xianfeng and became an example of loyalty.While living in Jiangning,Tang Yifen concentrated on painting and calligraphy creation,and his paintings entered a mature period,and the number of paintings is also very rich.Most of Tang Yifen’s paintings recorded in Ancient Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Catalogs,Catalogue of Ancient Chinese Calligraphy and Painting and Yang Renkai’s Appraisal Notes of Ancient Chinese Calligraphy and Painting were created when he lived in Jiangning.During this period,Tang Yifen’s nephew son-in-law Cao Bingren,to the role of curtain guest came to Jiangning,and built the love garden with the help of Tang Yifen.Love garden completed,Cao Bingren please Tang Yifen Aiyuan tu,Tang Yifen promised,and invited the other three makers to participate in the drawing.Aiyuan tu has 12 postscript at the end of the volume,reflecting the literati of that period,elegant gathering society,and the main painter Tang Yifen and love Garden relationship,of course,also from the side revealed the owner of Love Garden Cao Bingren’s life outlook and identity anxiety.Based on images and literature,this paper is divided into several parts.First of all,the author of Aiyuan tu,namely Tang Yifen,the main painter,and the other three painters Zhu Yueyun,Wang an,and Chen Yuelou,mainly focused on sorting out Tang Yifen’s activities in Jiangning,such as garden construction and association,as well as Tang Yifen’s association with Aiyuan,and the relationship and interaction between Tang Yifen and the owner of Aiyuan,Cao Bingren.Then analyze the whole volume of"Aiyuan Map",analyze its composition and techniques,screen content,refer to the Tang Yifen stamp in Aiyuan tu,explore the creation purpose of Aiyuan tu involved in the inscriptions and postscripts on the back of the volume,as well as scholars’interactions.And further in-depth study of Tang Yifen’s Aiyuan tu and related images,in love garden Tang,Cao two people contributed to a lot of social and elegant activities;Tang Yifen painted images to help Cao Bingren;Cao Bingren’s image building and identity anxiety;Tang,Cao two mutually beneficial relationship and so on.
