| This is a report on the E-C translation of The COVID-19 Pandemic as a Challenge for Media and Communication Studies(Excerpts).This book collects academic papers written by27 researchers who introduced the changes in media production,media content,and media usage during the pandemic.This report selects the first and the fifth chapters as the research objects and discusses the translation methods and techniques of academic papers under the guidance of Text Typology Theory by German functionalist Katharina Reiss.Based on Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory,the source text should be classified as an informative text.According to Reiss,while translating informative texts,translators should ensure an accurate and complete transfer of the original content and the translation should be oriented to the target language.Based on this,this report mainly discusses the following questions: given the language features of the source text,what translation techniques can be adopted by the translator to achieve(1)accurate and complete transfer of information at the lexical level,(2)idiomatic and fluent expression of the academic content at the syntactic level,and(3)concise and clear logic of translation at the stylistic level.Despite some similarities between English and Chinese papers,there are differences in the words and grammar used in this kind of text.Through this translation practice guided by Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory,the author comes to know that in the translation of academic papers,translators should attach importance to the diction of the target text and pay attention to the translation of terminology and passive voice.They should also focus on the idioms of the target language and flexibly use translation techniques to ensure idiomatic and fluent translation as well as a clear presentation of logic so that target readers can have a pleasant reading experience.This report aims to provide a reference for translators for future translations of similar text types.The author hopes this translation practice and report can arouse more people’s interest in media and communication studies. |
