Appication Of Rock Pigment At Gongbi Figure Painting

Chinese painting,boasting a long and brilliant history,is still pursuing new changes and seeking new experience in line with cultural development and contemporary aesthetics from continuous practice.Created in China in the last century,“rock pigment” is a new painting material developed in the advance of Chinese painting,which also gave birth to a new painting form.The new form not only inherits the oriental cultural characteristics of Chinese painting but reveals contemporary aesthetic taste.This thesis takes rock pigment as its research object.Starting with its application in gongbi figure painting,I discuss the definition and beauty of rock pigment as a painting material and the aesthetic expression achieved by it in figure painting,and summarize my exploration of the language of rock pigment based on my own creative practice,with an aim to answer the following three questions: 1)how can we use artistic expression methods and media that meet contemporary aesthetic ideals to present our oriental aesthetic spirits? 2)how can we carry forward our fine traditions today? 3)how can we use materials and techniques that meet contemporary aesthetic ideals to express oriental artistic pursuits? The first part of the thesis analyzes the application of rock pigment in painting in the three aspects of its material definition,color and texture.The second part discusses the contemporary characteristics and aesthetic meaning of the language of the material as well as related techniques by studying Hu Mingzhe’s and Zhuo Min’s excellent paintings and drawing on their successful experience.The third part introduces my own practice and experience of applying rock pigment in painting,and discusses the relationship between the use of rock pigment and artistic expression,so as to obtain a clearer understanding of the role of rock pigment as a language of material in contemporary gongbi figure painting.Art requires development.Rock pigment has helped expand Chinese painting’s forms of artistic expression,enriched the new language of contemporary visual art,catalyzed new changes in contemporary Chinese painting,strengthened its visual impact,and accelerated the integration of traditional Chinese painting into contemporary art.
