The object of this article is the grouping technique in contemporary brushwork figure painting, and it is studied and applied as an important linguistic expression.By analyzing and interpreting the composition, spatial arrangement, division and reorganization of artistic image shaping in ancient and modern paintings, the paper seeks to summarize the rules and application techniques in the form of pictorial and visual form analysis, and is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is a compilation and summarization of the presentation of grouping techniques from visual expression forms, taking ancient and modern works as examples. It contains three aspects: the grouping of composition, the free grouping of time and space, and the language of grouping in painting. The second chapter explores the causes and sources of the grouping technique from three aspects: the inheritance of tradition, the influence of Western art and the inherent requirement that the art language should keep up with the times. The content here is based on the practice and theories of previous generations, and is interpreted in the light of the new expression of contemporary painting language forms. In the third chapter, combining the author’s long-term study and practical experience of brush painting with his artworks, the author focuses on the application of the grouping technique in his personal creation, mainly in the expression of painting themes, visual presentation, and spiritual and emotional expression. The theoretical summary of this technique has greatly enriched the author’s knowledge and understanding of artistic language exploration, and also provided a theoretical reference for artists who agree with the value of the grouping technique.
